Well, glory be, my days are now taken up with tryin’ to decide
the difficult question of who looks best on this life ride …
Taylor Swift or Blake Lively as they step out
quietly and without a shout
wearin’ matchin’ floral print summer frocks,
well now, won’t that just knock off your socks!
I heard that frock thing on the web the other day
and they were talkin’ about it in just that way.
Some writer was askin’ the question of us
– who looks best? — and I wondered if she forgot to get off the bus!
So I said to … someone, do you believe what they’re sayin’?
And she said, well, People magazine was displayin’
a whole bunch a sets of women dressed the same
and they were askin’ us to vote on which dame
looked the best, and you know, I didn’t even agree
with who the best was they chose to be.
Oh, some days I think I maybe should’a stayed
down here on the farm and just sat around in the shade!
But, you know, this votin’ thing seems to be real popular and all
and I was thinkin’ that maybe we could give a call
to a Democrat and a Republican and we could dress in the same clothes
and put ‘em in People magazine, don’t you suppose,
and then we could all vote on which one looks the best
and the winner would lead the country at their own behest.
It would save a lot a time and money
and be real convenient, don’t you think so honey?

and it was phenomenal in every way.

I did a Soul Glyphs drawing for myself

because it came to me to no longer leave that gift on a shelf

but bring it out so that others might feel

its healing powers, and know they are real.

And what happened from that moment to now

was an experience of such magnitude I’m in awe at how

God/the Universe works when we are ready to see

and how all doors open that previously closed seemed to be.

I knew that a Soul Glyphs drawing always has healing energy within

and I knew I must honor that and just begin

to make the drawings available for whoever is ready

to know themselves from a place not heady

and who wants to heal all that gets in the way

so that the false sense of separation is cleared without delay.

In the process of offering this gift

I, myself, had a monumental shift

as in my own drawing a penguin I saw

and knew there was something important on which to gnaw.

As I searched the internet for the metaphysical meaning, what came

was a story of a young child whose nickname was the same.

But that child is no longer on this earth

having transitioned only a few years after his birth.

And on a blog his mother had written the meaning

of the penguin and as I read, tears were streaming,

for you see, penguins teach how to embrace

all realms of life, and all of the human race.

And the black and the white teach merging of the hidden with the known

and balancing the dark with the light, and not throw a stone.

And what I knew in every cell of my being

is that I am willing no longer to live my life seeing

a separation, a duality, of evil and good

because in that moment I felt I could

understand that it is all the same

and when I set about assigning blame

I am actually dividing myself against me

because I contain both equally.

I’ve been struggling with this thing of evil for many a day

and couldn’t quite understand why such irritation I did display

at the bombardment of negativity coming my way.

But now I know it was simply preparing me for the time

when I would understand and write this rhyme.

As I sat alone in my car driving home
my thoughts focused and did not roam,
for I was reviewing how much of life I have tasted
and there has not been one minute wasted.
I have really lived life and much of its joy
and so, too, have I lived those things that sometimes destroy
but through it all, I held that spark of light
until the day came when I saw through the dark of night.
I no longer feel like a victim I’ve been
nor do I carry the ravages of my past within.
It’s often difficult to know the exact moment of release
that brought about such enduring peace
because the journey has spanned many years
and contained within it many fears.
But now I sit as I drive along
and within my heart there is a joy-filled song.
The gratitude I feel for the accomplishments I’ve made
cannot be put into words of any shade
for I have come through the dark into the light
and there are no words to describe such a sight.
I made it, is such a simple little phrase
but it carries within it 70 years of nights and days.
There is no emotional attachment to events that are past
only a feeling of exuberance and freedom at last.

It’s a superhero, but it’s half its size, do you dig?
And it’s not about any man who was wearing a fig.
It’s coming and going in shadows of light
unable to know whether it is day or night.
We’re in this together, do you hear what I say?
Just try to understand with each coming day
there’s more to this than outward play.
When the time is right, it will happen anyway.
So give it a try whatever you do,
there’s bound to be at least one or two
who turn their heads and try to hear what you say
but look at each other puzzled about the interplay.
And maybe you will or maybe you won’t stay,
it matters not in the coming day.
Ups and downs are a part of what I see
but they don’t determine you and they don’t determine me.
It’s just the way it is,
and the sooner you learn that, the sooner you’ll be able to see
that you are not just you, you are also me.

I ask what is my purpose in being here
and You smile and say,
you must wait for the answer until another day.

I ask what is my purpose, why won’t You tell
but You just smile again, and say, well ….

If I tell you now then where is the mystery
that has confounded humans from the beginning of history?

If I tell you or even give you a hint
then in your eyes there is no longer the glint
that comes from knowing there is something to find
that only you can discover of the wondrous kind.

If I tell you now it’s something that’s free
that does not carry the value that was meant to be.

But when you discover all on your own
your purpose in being, you are the queen of your own throne
and your life has meaning that can only come
from your knowing fully you are part of the One.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” is the question that was posed
before I came into this lifetime and chose
the path I would walk so that I would truly know
it is possible to navigate the deep and the dark while keeping in tow
love and light and come out on the other side
filled with joy and gratitude for the ride.
Oh, don’t think for a minute that I loved it all
or that I thought it was one big masquerade ball.
Only on reflection have I been able to see
that my path was purposeful, at least for me.
And only on reflection am I able in wonderment to look back
and see how each piece was not randomly picked from a sack
but rather miraculously crafted and honed with care
to get me to my destination where
I could stand back and say,
“I made it!  What a great day!”
So many times there was fear in my heart
that I might not be able to do what I had planned from the start
but I just kept going, and I can’t even tell you why,
for there were many days when all I did was cry.
“I just want to go home,” I said more times than I can count
as the sorrow and grief did mount.
I looked around at the violence in the world I saw
and it broke my heart and left me raw
and I wondered how it could possibly be
and at the same time I knew it was some reflection of me.
For 37 years I was committed to only one thing -
bringing myself through the darkness and out of the sting
and proving to myself and anyone who cared
that it could be done, as through my experience I shared.

Some have wondered, in fact they did voice,

how I could memorize any poem of choice

and then keep adding more to the stock,

and one look at them told me they were in shock,

and it is all because I’m a bit old you see

at least chronologically.

But, I’m also a bit of a pistol when it comes to age

because I’m determined to turn my own page

and I’ll decide whether I’m old or not

so don’t you even give it another thought.

Age is like anything else in this world of ours

whatever you think will be either what devours

or rises you up in a way so energized and free

there will be people standing in line just to see

who you are because they are sure it can’t be true;

but if it is, they want to know what you do.

So even when I tell you, you won’t believe

because the rest of the world is so deceived.

I will be youthful as long as I THINK I am

and keep myself away from the age spam.

Memorizing poems at first seemed a bit of a difficult test

but the more I memorized, I put any age thing at rest,

for my brain seemed to expand to accommodate whatever I tried

and it became a game to see how much I could store inside.

Thoughts are interesting because they are so good

at making us into whatever we think or believe we should

so if age is one of those things that’s a thorn in your side,

change your thoughts about it and give it a raucous good ride.

I’m always watching for messages in the smallest of things

for I have learned that is the place that often brings

an affirmation, or not, that I am moving in the right direction

and to not be thinking about the possibility of defection.

Now you may laugh at what I tell you next

or you may even be just a tad perplexed

but one of the places where I get messages that say

I should continue along the same way

is when I play solitaire in order to give myself a short break

from the computer and my poetry for my body’s sake.

What I have been noticing over the past few days

is that just when I think there are no ways

that I can possibly win the hand I am playing,

lo and behold, almost like magic, the cards begin displaying

that winning, indeed, is what is taking place,

and there is always surprise on my face.

What is important about this interesting thing

is that, for me, it is symbolic that life can bring

a positive solution to what at one point looked dire

and that I need to keep my focus always on something higher.

But there is something else that it means to me

and it is the most important thing for me to see –

it’s a message of hope for what is yet to come

and an admonition to not be fooled by the appearance of some.
